New Playlist: Baby Driver Getaway

Baby Driver is an action crime movie directed by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) about a getaway driver who uses music to help him maintain focus while drowning out the ringing in his ears sustained in a childhood car accident. Having premiered at SXSW last week, it's scheduled for release on 11 August. Until then, we have little to go on except for a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a couple of trailers that reveal the significant role music plays in the film.

A talented, young getaway driver (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. When he meets the girl of his dreams (Lily James), Baby sees a chance to ditch his criminal life and make a clean getaway.

Although the full soundtrack listing is not yet available, the trailers give us a few insights into the music that literally drives the title character. Action and music appear intimately intertwined, choreographed even, rather like a recorded music-based musical set to a three-dozen-song soundtrack.

In lieu of the full soundtrack, I've used the five tracks that feature in the available trailers as a foundation for a playlist tuned for driving. From high-speed getaways to late night cruising, there's something on Baby Driver Getaway for every driving occasion, day or night.
